27-hydroxycholesterol (27 OHC) is an occurring substance called oxysterol. It plays a role, in the production of bile acids from cholesterol which is important for digestion. The enzymes CYP7B1 and CYP27A1 help create 27-OHC by modifying cholesterol through a process called hydroxylation.
