Canine distemper virus affects animal families that includes dogs, wolves, foxes, coyotes, raccoons, ferrets and skunks. In canines, it is found to impact respiratory and gastrointestinal tracts, the brain and the spinal cord. CDV can be caused by a single-stranded RNA virus that belong to the Paramyxoviridae family, it is also closely related to the viruses that result in rinderpest and measles.
