Interleukin 12 can bind to specific receptors that are mostly found in T cells and NK cells. The signalling cascade that is induced by binding of the receptors to their respective ligand involves a G protein activating protein called Gq, which stimulates phospholipase C (PLC), leading to release of intracellular calcium.
