Nitric oxide synthase 2, more commonly known as inducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS or NOS2), is an enzyme critical to immune defense through its production of nitric oxide (NO). Unlike neuronal and endothelial NOS which exhibit transient activity, immune stimuli trigger sustained NO production by iNOS.
