The Actinobacteria genus Streptomyces produces the polyketide antibiotic tetracycline. It inhibits bacterial growth by binding reversibly to the bacterial 30S ribosomal subunit and preventing incoming aminoacyl tRNA from binding to the ribosome acceptor site.
